Colleen Clark is among the most respected young jazz musicians of her generation. Drummer, composer, educator and bandleader, Clark is the first woman to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Performance at the world renowned University of North Texas, the oldest jazz institution in America.

Clark has performed in prolific venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, as well as prominent New York City Jazz stages. Her first album, consisting entirely of her original music, Introducing Colleen Clark, was produced by Gordon Stout and engineered by ten-time Grammy Award nominee/winner, Brian Dozoretz.

In March of 2016, Clark made her Kennedy Center debut with her band the Colleen Clark Collective, in which they premiered her new music. Clark was chosen by the ASCAP Foundation for this special presentation.

In the Spring of 2015, the ASCAP Foundation awarded Clark the Phoebe Jacobs Memorial Prize – presented to a promising female recipient of an ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award. In 2014, ASCAP presented Clark with the Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award – Honorable Mention for her composition, Take 2 – from Introducing Colleen Clark: The Debut Album (p/r) 2014.

Clark has had the privilege of playing on some of New York's most celebrated stages including: Smoke Jazz Club, 92Y, The Iridium, Smalls Jazz Club, The Cutting Room, Rockwood Music Hall and Birdland Jazz Club. She has also played live at the Jazz Educator's Network Conference and has toured with her band, the Colleen Clark Collective – performing her original music. She has been featured and/or interviewed in numerous publications including: Downbeat Magazine, The New York City Jazz Record, ZealNYC, Tom Tom Magazine and a special live interview appearance on the KUVO Jazz Radio.

Clark is a proud alumni of Ithaca College (B.M. Percussion Performance/Music Education) and SUNY Purchase (M.M. Jazz Performance). Additionally, Colleen has served on the faculty at Ithaca College, conducting Percussion Ensemble and teaching a full private studio while actively working as a composer for numerous commissions in the academic settings. These works are a fusion between the classical and jazz traditions; focusing on the incorporation of improvisation for classical musicians and future music educators. Premieres and/or commissions were from Cornell University, Ithaca College and Millersville University.

From a young age, Clark has been under the mentorship of prominent drummers and composers including:

Alexander Lepak, Gordon Stout, John Riley, and most recently, Ed Soph.

She believes music changes lives and teaches for the New York Pops Education Program (since 2010), where she proudly performs jazz master-classes for children in the Bronx.
